conceptinside out?Make a collection of wearable items that use “encapsulation” or part encapsulation as a way of creating natural boundaries, protecting/hiding or indeed revealing what is inside. That can be purely an emotion or feeling shown as a 3d object, or a sentimental object or memory.Is the fragile element the capsule or its contents? Does the capsule provide the safety/security, or is the object inside holding the capsule in form? Use hidden or disguised elements to provoke questions; what is inside/what’s it made of/how did what’s inside get in and how does it stay in?? Stimulating the thoughts of the observer through the unknown. Tactility; creating texture through cavities and layers, chambers and tunnels. Use repetition to create uniformity and rhythm. Different materials creating colour and texture variation. Rough against smooth, natural against man-made. Using natural, found elements or even capsules and transforming them into something new. |
